Minister of Youth and Sports activities, Solomon Dalung, has disclosed that no fewer than 8,861 athletes from 35 states are to take part within the 19th Nationwide Sports activities Competition billed for Abuja from December sixth -16th 2018.
Dalung made the disclosure on the finish of the Federal Govt Council (FEC) assembly presided over by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on the State Home Villa, in Abuja.
The one state that’s not taking part on this 12 months’s pageant is Ebonyi State.
He stated the shortcoming of Cross River State to host the occasion, following a number of postponements, led to the take-over by the Federal Authorities.
In response to him, a complete variety of 8,861 delegates which includes of seven,227 athletes, 710 coaches, 322 different group officers, 602 state delegates, will take part within the pageant.
The minister stated the FCT, being the host held a street present, on Tuesday, to mobilise Abuja residents to the pageant’s opening ceremony which begins at 5:00pm.
Dalung stated members of the Council, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, have been invited to the opening ceremony.
The athletes are to take part in 10 video games – Abula, basketball, seashore volleyball, cricket, soccer, hockey, para-soccer.
He stated the contact of unity which has gone by means of all 36 states of the federation will arrive Abuja Thursday morning.
Stressing the significance of the pageant, Dalung stated Nationwide Sports activities Competition and the Nationwide Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are the important thing legacies of the nation Nationwide Unity.
