This means Payton is not officially scheduled for a second interview with any team.
Upon receiving the news, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Peyton is unlikely to end up in any of the available coaching roles next season.
“Right now, there doesn’t seem to be a place for Sean Payton,” Rapoport said. NFL now“We’ll see what happens, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a place in the coaching world right now.”
“We’ve been talking all along that Sean Payton could be back at Fox for another year, whether it’s 50-50 or 50-50 or better. Back to coaching, he’s willing to take on any job. said Garafolo. “It’s going to have to be the right situation on both sides of the table, and we don’t feel like that’s where we are right now. …We’ve consistently heard the opposite.”
Garafolo added that if Payton doesn’t get a coaching position this offseason, the former coach will likely consider open positions next year and see if those circumstances are a better fit.
