Greg Hastings (North Tonawanda) received his 2nd Phase VI tennis name in a row Wednesday over ECIC champion Jerry Xiao (Williamsvile East), two fits to none.

Hastings made it to the event finals through defeating East Aurora’s Anthony Markello, the ECIC runner-up, in two fits.

Xiao defeated Akron’s Nate Chubb in a two-hour, three-match semifinal contest sooner than shedding to Hastings within the finals. Chubb beat Markello in any other two-hour matchup for 3rd position within the event.

He, Xiao and Hastings will trip to Flushing Meadows in New York Town for the NYSPHSAA event held Might 30-June 1.

The Orchard Park group of Noah Sayoc and Declan Watson received the doubles bracket through defeating Olean’s Filip Morawski and Thomas Bates in two fits.

Sayoc and Watson, coached through 43-year veteran Terry McMahon, beat the Clarence duo of Matt Kozinski and River Reinhardt to advance to the finals. Morawski and Bates beat Sam Greco and Zachary Black of Amherst within the semifinals.

Greco and Black took 3rd within the event within the comfort spherical over Kozinski and Reinhardt to make the state event with Sayoc/Watson and Morawski/Bates.

Sayoc and Watson’s fathers, Stephen Sayoc and Matt Watson, received the doubles event in 1986 with McMahon as trainer.

“It’s a privilege to have their sons enjoying for me and successful championships after their fathers,” McMahon stated.

Baseball seeds launched

Lockport (AA), Kenmore West (A-1), Iroquois (A-2), Springville (B-1), Roy-Hart (B-2), Holland (C) and Brocton (D) have been named the highest seeds of their respective baseball playoff brackets at a gathering held Wednesday night time.
