Canton South seniors Future Winans and Abigail Franks are headed to the state tennis event. 

The doubles workforce of Winans and Franks received twice Friday to succeed in the semifinals of the Akron Division II district event at Springside Racquet & Health Membership. The 2 wins assure the duo a visit to the Division II state tennis event. This would be the first journey to state for every participant.

Winans and Franks defeated Ella Coyle and Emmah McConahay of Struthers 6-2, 6-0. The South duo then beat Beachwood’s Zillin Zhang and Emily Fan to succeed in the semifinals.

Franks reached a profession milestone with the 2 victories, as she surpassed 100 profession wins. She enters Saturday with 101. Winans eclipsed the 100 mark per week in the past and sits at 103.

Winans and Franks — who received a sectional doubles title per week in the past — will face Hathaway Brown’s Brigette Fuentes and Alex Wolf within the semifinals Saturday morning.

The Marlington doubles workforce of Mary Mason and Elizabeth Mason misplaced their second-round match, however nonetheless have an opportunity to qualify for state if they’ll win two matches and end in fifth place within the comfort bracket. The Masons are slated to face Zhang and Fan within the comfort semifinals.

Marlington’s Stella McConnell was eradicated from the singles event. McConnell fell to Orrville’s Claudia Adcock within the opening spherical.
